List Of Flowers

The flower is the reproductive structure characteristic of plants or flowering spermatophytes. The function of a flower is to produce seeds through sexual reproduction. For plants, seeds are the next generation, and serve as the primary means through which the species are perpetuated and spread.

All have flowers spermatophytes produce seeds, but the internal organization of the flower is very different in the two main groups of spermatophytes: living gymnosperms and angiosperms.

Gymnosperms may have flowers that gather in strobili, or the same flower can be a fertile strobilus sheet. But a typical angiosperm flower consists of four types of modified leaves, both structurally and physiologically, to produce and protect the gametes: sepals, petals, stamens and carpels.

In angiosperms, the flower gives rise following the fertilization and transformation of some of its parts, a fruit containing seeds.

The group of angiosperms, with more than 250,000 species, is an evolutionarily successful lineage that forms the bulk of the existing terrestrial flora, as you will see in our list of flowers.

The angiosperm flower is the defining character of the group and is probably a key factor in their evolutionary success. Is a complex structure whose organizational plan is preserved in almost all members of the group, but has a tremendous diversity in morphology and physiology of each and every one of its components.

The genetic basis and adaptive such diversity is beginning to be understood in depth, as well as their origin, dating from the Early Cretaceous, and subsequent developments in close interaction with animals that are responsible for transporting the gametes.

Regardless of the above aspects, the flower is an important object for humans. Throughout history and across cultures, the flower has always had a place in human societies, either for their intrinsic beauty or their symbolism. In fact, species grow to provide us with flowers from more than 5,000 years ago and now that art has become an industry in constant expansion: floriculture.

Carnation Flower Meanings And Different Corlors

Carnations adorn so many places. They're present at weddings and birthday parties; at funerals and festivals. They're used in all occasions or none at all. A simple long stemmed carnation evokes as much of a sigh as does a bouquet of carnations. And the colors! Oh the colors! The bright reds, yellows, pinks, peaches... now who wouldn't love to have a sight like that brighten up their day? But do you know the carnation flower meaning? Do you know what the carnation flower is all about? How it came to be and what it signifies? What is the meaning of carnation flowers? So if I have been able to tweak your curiosity a little bit, you'll be interested in knowing the carnation flower meaning. Shall we?
The carnation flower meaning literally translates to 'Flowers of the god' or 'Flowers of love'. The carnation flower, it is said, dates back 2000 years and more. The flower is characterized by the sweet clove like smell that it emanates and its ruffled appearance, along with having long -asting abilities.
The scientific name of the carnation flower is Dianthus caryophyllus. And it is a flower that is surrounded by mythology, symbolism and debate. Some suggest that the carnation flower meaning derived its name from the word 'corone' which means flower garland or from 'coronation' because it was used in Greek ceremonial crowns. While others say that it is derived from the Latin word 'carnis' meaning flesh, because of its pinkish tinge, or the word 'incarnacyon' meaning incarnation.
Flowers have been used to signify several things for over centuries. They have a very important place and position in our society, as I have mentioned earlier in the article. They are used as a medium to express several things. Similarly, the carnations are used to signify several emotions. Carnations are worn on occasions of Teacher's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Mother's Day. Carnations are the official flowers of the state of Ohio. Along with that they are the first wedding anniversary flower. They are also the January birth flower. Now that we know the significance and importance set with the carnation flower, let's look at some of the carnation flower meanings of its different colors.
Carnation Color Meanings
While the carnation flower meaning in general signifies virtues and emotions like love, distinction and fascination, it is very interesting to note, that each of the several colors of the carnation flower signify a different meaning and association. Thus the carnation flower meaning holds a different and unique meaning for all its colors.
Red Carnation Flower
The red carnation flower meaning is a symbol of being associated with admiration and friendship. At the same time a very bright red carnation flower meaning suggests deep love and affection.
Pink Carnation Flower
The pink carnation is considered to be the most significant flower among all the carnation colors. This is because it is believed that the pink carnation first bloomed from the Virgin Mary's tears as she wept for Jesus carrying the cross of his crucifixion. Thus these flowers symbolize a mother's undying love. Over the years it has even come to be associated with a woman's love.
White Carnation Flower
White carnations are symbolic of feelings of pure love, innocence, faithfulness, ardent love and good luck. They also signify gratitude.
Purple Carnation Flower
These flowers mean capriciousness. Meaning the ability to change according to whim. But the occasions on which these flowers can be or are given is unclear.
Yellow Carnation Flower
A yellow carnation signifies emotions of rejection, disdain and disappointment in someone.
Striped Carnation Flower
This flower is used when one wants to convey their refusal to someone.
Of course you loved the carnations before you read this article, but now that you know about the carnation flower meaning and significance, doesn't it make you look at them differently? So the next time you take in the clove scented aroma, you will definitely be reminded of the emotions that the color you're holding signifies...Won't you?

How to Grow Catasetum Orchid

This unusual group of orchids offers fascinating, waxy flowers that often have the peculiar habit of discharging their pollen masses (pollinia) onto pollinators. Almost always deciduous, the pseudobulbous plants have strict growing and resting periods. Most flower before entering a dormant period when they drop their leaves.
Light should be strong, especially near the end of the growth period. Early in the annual growth cycle, plants will tolerate less light, from 1,500 to 3,000 foot-candles. Plants grow best with light levels of 3,000 to 6,000 foot-candles, or one-half to three-fourths full sun. As pseudobulbs mature, harden them by giving slightly more light.
Temperatures reflect the fact these orchids are native to hot tropical areas and grow during the rainy summer months. During this growing period, day temperatures of 80 to 100 F and night temperatures of 60 to 65 F are beneficial. After growths mature, temperatures can be reduced to 55 F at night, with day temperatures of 70 to 85 F.
Water is a critical factor for the production of large pseudobulbs that result in best flowering. A great quantity of water must be stored by the plant in a relatively short growing season. Water heavily as new leaves are forming. As the pseudobulb matures, gradually reduce watering frequency. Leaves will yellow and drop. At this time, watering should be stopped completely until new growth begins. Water during this dormant period only if the pseudobulbs shrivel severely.
Humidity should be 40 to 60 percent. This can be provided in the home by placing the plants on trays of gravel, only partially filled with water so that the plants do not sit in the water. Air should always be moving around the plants to prevent fungal or bacterial disease, especially if high humidity or cool temperatures exist. In the greenhouse, the humidity is best increased by use of a humidifier. Evaporative cooling increases humidity while cooling the air.
Fertilize and water regularly to produce strong pseudobulbs. Use a highnitrogen formulation (such as 30-10-10) while plants are in active growth, slowly tapering off as pseudobulbs form. A blossom- booster formulation (such as 10-30- 20) should be used in the autumn, except for plants that normally bloom in the spring. Frequent applications of a dilute concentrations of fertilizer are more effective than occasional applications of strong concentrations.
Potting should be timed to coincide with the initiation of new growth, usually in the spring. New roots will be produced quickly at that time, and plants will experience minimal setback. These plants have vigorous root systems and require a rich, moist potting medium during the growing season. Many growers bare-root their plants during the resting period to ensure dryness at that time. Fine-grade media are common for smaller pots; medium-grade media are used only in larger pots. Sphagnum moss is used successfully for plants in many areas, as it provides tremendous water- and fertilizer-holding capacities. Some plants can be grown on slabs of tree fern or other material, which makes it easier to keep them dry during dormancy; however, it is harder to keep them moist while growing. When well grown, these orchids can be divided down to one mature pseudobulb and will then flower on the next mature growth. Spider mites are a common pest of these orchids when in leaf. Control spider mites by keeping humidity high or spraying with recommended miticides.

Hybrid Orchids Introduction

Phalaenopsis orchids can be a variety of different colors because the majority of these orchids today are hybrids. The phalaenopsis has become so popular on a global level that many States and countries are producing them on a commercial level because the demand is constantly growing.
More people are interested in purchasing this orchid because it is not only simple to take care of with consistent care, but it is also a rewarding plant that stays in bloom for a long period of time from winter through spring. Orchids originally were only available at speciality orchid shows or floral shops but now it is possible to find them at grocery stores, hardware stores, and even farmer’s markets.
The growing demand for phalaenopsis orchids has inspired different hybrids to be incorporated into the species. There are the standard hybrids which include the large white, pink, or striped flowers. These are the most common amongst the phalaenopsis orchid. There are also different colors that include red, orange, and yellow, as well as different patterns including spots or bars. The varieties can be simply ‘mixed and matched’ to please the consumer who not only wants to purchase an orchid, but one that has individuality based on its appearance.
Certain hybrids vary in size. The largest of the phalaenopsis hybrids are specific forms of the white flowered plants as well as the pink flowered plants. These plants can grow up to twenty five-inch flowers, which means the stem is long enough and sturdy enough to hold twenty large flowers. This basically means that one of these popular hybrids can be very large because of the fact that it is monopodial, or one, upright growing stem.
Some hybrids are smaller with an abundant number of smaller flowers. These hybrids usually include the brighter flowers that might have different patterns. These hybrids originally started with a standard large, white phalaenopsis orchid crossed with a brighter, more unusual orchid. They produce a smaller plant that has dominant bright colors, but the same shape of the phalaenopsis.

Do You Know The Flower Sexy Yellow Birds of Paradise

We got home late last night from our brief trip to the Northeastern and Northwestern parts of North America… An hour before departing from our hotel in Seattle, we ducked into the Pike Place Market and loaded up two small boxes with assorted produce to take back as checked baggage. Then we texted some friends in Manila to invite them to Sunday lunch, and on the menu, whatever cleared customs inspection at NAIA (the Manila airport). I was up at 5am with jet lag, and headed to the Centris market in Quezon City to pick up some herbs and other greens and I spotted these unusually stunning yellow birds of paradise (a member of the heliconia family, is that right?).
At PHP100 for three blooms, they were a bargain.I asked the vendor what they were called, and he answered “Sexy Yellow” and that was that. If you happen to know the scientific name, please leave a comment as my gardening skills are almost non-existent.As we were on our final approach into Manila last night, I couldn’t help but think that the city was pretty dark and gloomy, a zoning nightmare, a fairly ugly place. It was an extremely negative viewpoint, I know, but fairly objective I think. We had just come from some visually stunning places, and it was inevitable that I would compare Manila vs. Vancouver vs. Seattle vs. New England vs. any major international city that I would personally like to visit and revisit again and again. I can’t imagine that droves of tourists would come to Manila simply to visit the city (as opposed to visiting family, friends or conducting business) as say millions would do so for Paris, Hong Kong or New York… I suspect if there were direct international flights to Boracay, Palawan, Bohol, etc. folks would bypass Manila altogether.
Some of these reflections probably hark back to some of our conversations during the recent eyeball in Vancouver. It was wonderful to meet folks who read the blog, but more importantly, Filipinos from all walks of life who have chosen to make a foreign city/country their adopted homes. They have raised their families there, and their children, while identifying themselves as ethnically Filipino, will be for the most part, proudly Canadian, American, etc. as well. There are perhaps more than 10+ million Filipinos who have migrated to various parts of the world in the past 50-60 years, and millions of their children will have been born and raised in a new environment, many of them rarely or never coming back to the Philippines to visit. And yet when you meet them, there is that instant spark, that affinity, that streak of Pinoy that doesn’t fully disappear… And it is wonderful.

Magnolia Flowers

Magnolia Trees are intricately linked to visions of the South. The film Steel Magnolias is a superb instance of this linkage. Magnolia timber are often trimmed into the acquainted Christmas tree shape, but they grow immediately and real when left alone. They will develop as tall as pines below ideally suited conditions.

Magnolia trees grow best in free, acidic soils. They're tolerate of high moisture levels and will be planted in areas vulnerable to moist/dry fluctuations in soil moisture. They don't like black, clay soils.. Generally a tree will grow for several years, then decline and die whilst the roots hit the compacted clay substrate. Magnolia trees will develop in partial shade, however will not grow as quick and could have fewer blooms than a tree planted in full sun.
Magnolia trees are propagated from cuttings taken off of older bushes or from seed. The bushes grown from cuttings grow significantly better than the timber grown from seed. The seeds are exhausting to germinate, and the cuttings are laborious to root. It is best to purchase a tree from a nursery as a substitute of making an attempt to develop one from seed or a reducing yourself.
The best time to plant Magnolia timber varies with the climate. It may be as early as is October and November or as late as February. It is best to dig a hole two times as vast as the basis ball or container wherein the plant is growing, and as deep as the foundation ball. Be certain the highest of the root ball is degree with the soil floor, then backfill with the local soil you just dug from your hole. Water totally to settle the soil. Then observe 3 to five inches of mulch at the soil surface to conserve moisture and stop weeds.
The tree will should be watered 3 times per week, with one inch of water a time, the first two weeks. After that, water the tree one inch every week once a week. Too much water will kill your tree quicker than too little water. Don't fertilize at planting or in the winter. Wait until spring arrives and the tree has new progress before fertilizing.
For the primary 3 years, fertilize lightly in March, May, July, and September. Through the fourth growing season, you perhaps can scale back that to March and September for the remainder of the lifetime of the tree. You will need to check the soil around the tree to know what nutrients to feed your plant. It'll definitely want Nitrogen, but may no longer need Phosphorus or Potassium.
Most individuals shape their Magnolia tree right into a pyramidal shape. You should leave the lower branches at the Magnolia, in order that the cover extends to the ground and hides the tree litter. You have to to selectively prune the facet branches in December to take care of the pyramidal shape. When you chose not to trim the tree, it'll develop instantly and might attain eighty to one hundred feet in height. It goes to nonetheless have the foliage and blossoms, but there won't be as lots of them as if it have been pruned into the pyramidal shape.
There are completely different cultivators of Magnolia trees. Some grow solely 20 toes tall, some grow 80 ft tall. You may be able to do a little research and discover the perfect cultivator for the location you have chosen on your tree. While planting, be certain you enable for the mature dimension of the tree and avoid overhead traces, sidewalks, and other plants. The tree will colour out such a lot crops which can be beneath the canopy, so maintain that during mind.

flowerwild workshop

as you may have guessed from the lack of posts lately...we've been busy. (like hanging these insane floral "clouds" from the ceiling of an old hog barn. whose crazy idea was that???) next time i will definitely consider the "how" before I blurt out an untested creative zinger like that! big thanks to my honey-pie for listening to all of my "pie in the sky" ideas and ramblings on this (balloons covered in petals, styrofoam forms with layers of tubed hydrangea wrapped around them, etc) and then figuring out how to engineer their installation. you are a patient and sweet man!
tomorrow I'm kind of, or mostly on my way to my good friend Jose Villa's workshop in Los Olivos. Nevermind my car died an hour ago - and I'm not in LA. but, thanks to the good will ambassador of flowerwild (ambassador of happiness and all things positive (amber moon)) it looks like Jose will get his flowers and some other goodies.
which brings me to something else. many of you have been asking about our next workshop. and i haven't planned dates yet, or locations. So though I would ask you all. when and where would you like to see flowerwild workshops?
considering first and last weeks of november, and other dates in Jan and feb!

Plant bulbs in fall for spring blooms

Planting bulbs is an act of faith. Who'd think such beautiful blooms could spring from such lumpy, homely things?

But each fall, I bury more of these treasures because bulbs give me great bang for my buck. Heirlooms such as leucojum, grape hyacinth (Musacari neglectum) and bletilla reward a gardener with a lifetime of spring blooms. And 'Golden Dawn' and 'Grand Primo' are just two of the many narcissus that naturalize in a Texas garden.
Some must-haves require a bit more care. But given a 6- to 8-week "winter" in your refrigerator before planting, Dutch tulips and hyacinths will make your spring garden sing. Store the bulbs in mesh bags on the shelf; avoid storing them in the refrigerator bin as the ethylene gas emitted by certain fruits and vegetables can destroy the bulbs. Store other bulbs in a cool, dry area until it's time to plant.

Three more options for spring 2012:
1 Color greens with tulips
Plant bright or pastel tulips among lettuce, mustard and turnips in a winter/early spring vegetable patch. Remove chilled bulbs from the fridge and plant from late December through mid-January. Partial shade and watering during warm spells helps ensure success.
Work the soil well, adding bone meal or superphosphate if dogs or squirrels tend to dig in your garden. Create a large hole about 6 inches deep with a fairly level bottom to plant a cluster of bulbs that will produce blooms at about the same height. Cover the bottom of the hole with a 1-inch layer of sharp sand, then space the bulbs about 4 inches apart on the sand. If you're digging smaller holes for single bulbs, place sand in the bottom of each hole.
Plant the bulbs with the pointed end up and the flat side of the bulb facing the front of the bed. Cover the bulbs with 3 to 4 inches of soil, then water. Also water as the tulips grow.

2 A mellow meadow
Yellow and blue provide a perfect spring balance of cool and warm. Grape hyacinths (Muscari spp.), are intense blue, slightly fragrant urn-shaped blooms packed in elongated clusters on 6- to 8-inch stems. What better partners in a front-lawn spring dance than cheerful yellow daffodils (Narcissus spp.)?
Select firm bulbs and store them until planting time in paper or mesh bags or open flats in a well-ventilated place.
Water the lawn, if necessary, to soften the ground before planting time - around Thanksgiving or in December. Gather your bulbs, a bulb digger and a bucket of clean, sharp sand. Stand in the vicinity of where you'd like to see yellow and blue blooms next spring. Toss the bulbs, and let them fall where they may. Using the bulb digger, take a plug out of the lawn where each bulb has landed. Place a tablespoon of sand in each hole, then set the daffodils bulbs so their bottoms sit about 3 inches deep, the grape hyacinths about 1 inch deep.
Drop the plugs back in the holes, on top of the bulbs. Water to encourage the bulbs to begin root growth.

Grape hyacinths will often naturalize. A number of daffodils return each spring. 'Carlton,' a vanilla-scented, heirloom with soft yellow petals and deep yellow cups, is great for lawn planting, beds and containers. So are 'Fortune,' 'Dutch Master,' 'Ice Follies,' 'Italicus' and 'Texas Star.'
Avoid mowing after the foliage tips emerge in the lawn. St. Augustine is dormant in November, so there's no need to mow. But if you overseed your lawn with winter-growing rye, plant daffodils in beds and containers.
There's no need to fertilize bulbs when you plant them, but you can do so the following year. After the daffodil bulbs have bloomed, leave the foliage until it yellows and withers, then cut it back. Grape hyacinth's grasslike foliage precedes the flowers and disappears during dormancy.
3Heavenly scent
With its heady fragrance and formal looks, the pre-chilled Dutch hyacinth is excellent for forcing over water into winter bloom - or, if you can wait for spring blooms, planting outside in masses in November or December. We also like them in clustered pots near the front door.
Each bulb produces one flower spike, 6-10 inches long and loaded with waxy blooms in blue, violet, red, pink, salmon, yellow or white. Heavy spikes may need staking.
Hyacinth bulbs can cause skin rashes, so wear gloves while handling. Use a well-draining potting soil; some gardeners add 1 teaspooon of bone meal per 6 inches of pot. Plant the bulbs bottoms down and so there's about 3 inches of potting soil above the tips.
Plant three plump bulbs in a 6-inch pot, or for more drama, double the number of bulbs in a 12-inch pot. Bulb expert Margaret Cherry prefers using large containers so bulbs stay cooler during warm spells.

Water well. Place the potted bulbs outside and keep the medium moist but not too wet. If necessary, turn the container every few days to encourage straight stalks.

Wake up and smell the flowers: Train carriage transformed into a lush garden to relax city commmmuters.

This is one way for commuters to relax on their hectic early morning trip to work - by sitting back and relaxing in a garden built in an underground train carriage.
The bizarre mobile garden was created by Joseph Baldwin and a team of 10 volunteers, who painstakingly laid over 400 sods of grass throughout the train in Chicago.
Every inch of floor and seat space is covered in lush green plants and grass - making the normally stressful commuter carrier into a tranquil idyll.

And after spending a backbreaking eight hours solid decking out the normally bland train carriage in an explosion of greenery, the group then sent the train around the cities downtown loop.
For one day only thousands of stressed out city workers in Chicago were able to relax in the relatively peaceful mobile garden.

Joseph said: "We rented an L train carriage for one night only and kitted it out with all sorts.
"We managed to plant annual perrenials, natives, houseplants, tropicals, ivy, spider plants, and other vegetables inside the carriage.
"It cost us less than $250 to get everything as we had a lot of substantial donations of plants, volunteer labour and printing.

Fuchsias are a graceful

Fuchsias are a graceful shrub requiring shade but some have been known to do just as well in full sun.

They are long flowering and can last from late spring and into winter in some cases. These flowers are a beautiful addition to any backyard design and can be used in a variety of different ways.

Different species have different growth habits so you can have standards, bushed, espaliers and hanging baskets either over the edge of a container or rising above one in a pyramid. These garden plants will add that something special to any backyard landscape or patio.

If growing in the garden the soil should be light, medium not acid loam. Enrich it with bone meal and compost and if too sandy, add moistened peatmoss. In a pot any good potting mix will keep them happy.

In a hanging basket more peatmoss needs to be added because baskets dry out quicker than pots. Line the basket with plastic which has a few holes in to let the water drain out before a layer of sphagnum moss.

This will help keep the moisture in. Charcoal in the bottom of the basket helps keep the soil sweet. Don’t allow a fuchsia to dry out.

The elegant, pendulous flowers come as double, single and frilled. The color ranges from white, pink, red, purple and any combination of the above.
With careful pruning you can train a fuchsia into any shape you desire depending on the habit of your particular choice.

If their needs are met they hold well and give a lengthy display. Find a place in your garden for these wonderful plants and enjoy their dance in the sun.
When landscaping my yard I ignored advice from plant specialists and decided to try my hand at growing azaleas and camelias that I love in Perth.

I love azaleas and camelias and really wanted to have a backyard design full of each. I live in Perth, Australia which has very dry, hot weather and we can have weeks of 40 deg c with it not getting below 20 deg c at night.

We can also get quite cold weather also sometimes getting to 0 deg c but no snow.
Because of this I didn’t know how an azalea garden would go but when we moved into our new house I decided to give it a go.

My front garden faces west which is the fiercest heat in the day so I decided to choose a claret ash, a deciduous tree, to plant to give shade to these bushes as well as let the sun through in winter.

I chose to make a garden on the north west side of my house and included a couple of camelias too.

I prepared the bed and planted a row of deep pink azaleas along the fence and a row of white azaleas in the front and place a deep pink camelia in the middle and a light pink camelia at the top. I mulched and kept the water up to them and they did very well.

I had planted the tree in the actual garden to give as much shade to the plants as possible and this stunted the growth of the camelia in the middle of the garden but both azaleas and camelias continue to give good flower and colour through the seasons.

I have lost a couple of the azaleas this year because of water restrictions but the rest seem to be very well established and have weathered about 15 years of our dry hot weather as well as a few frosts.

I realise this is not the most ideal situation for these plants but as I really loved them I thought it was worth it to try my hand at keeping them alive. I have tried in other parts of my garden also but have always lost the camelias by the end of the season.

Choosing the right wedding dress

When you start with the wedding preparations, wedding wear is something that can't at all be missed out.

Choosing the right wedding dress out of the lot is definitely a task that is full of confusion. Well, the bride's body type, her personality and more importantly which type of outfits she can carry well are the important factors to be kept in mind while choosing the wedding dress. While many prefer glamorous wedding gowns, you might be a bride-to-be who loves to keep it simple and sober.

Well, if that soft look is what suits you the most, then there are a number of patterns in simple wedding dresses which you can opt for.

Yes, wedding wear does not always need to be very flashy and glamorous. You can have a simple wedding wear nicely designed to don a look that is class apart. Let me tell you that simple wedding gowns have become a popular trend in the recent years and most of the brides are opting for that soft and elegant look instead of the funky and flashy appearance. So, here are some styles and options that you can check out.

Simple and Elegant Wedding Dresses

Sober Fabrics

Fabrics play a major role in appearance of a dress pattern.

Right choice of fabric must be done considering the style of dress and your body type. As you might be opting for plain fabrics and soft colors, fabric must be so chosen that it adds the essential amount of rich effect. Satin, satin sheath, lace, raw silk, silk, cotton silk and linen are the best fabrics to pick for simple wedding dresses.

If you are not going to add even a single colored element to the basic dress pattern, then it is best to opt for lace fabric in white, beige or any other color. If you are looking for inexpensive wedding dresses, make sure you choose the fabric accordingly, as the same majorly affects the total cost.

Dress Patterns

When you look for simple dresses, A line gown definitely tops the list.

A simple A line gown with a 'V' neckline and sleeveless pattern is the perfect pick. Accessorize such simple wedding dresses with organza waist belt and get set to walk down the aisle. You can add a diamond or brooch at the mid of this belt to give a perfect finishing touch to the outfit. Empire waistlines are a hot trend of this season and you can have the same accommodated in the dress pattern.

Further keep the piece sleeveless or add balloon sleeves. Also, the lower part can be kept flowy or made a bit stylish by keeping it body fitted. Short dresses with empire necklines are also a good pick.

You can have the lower part flowy with a narrow colored trim added at the hemline that matches with a trim added at the lifted waistline in this case. Satin trims make the best pick for wedding gowns.

If you are opting for a colored wedding dress, you need not add any contrast colored trims or belts as the same can overdo the look. Keep the entire dress in single color and just add sequins at neckline or for the upper part of the dress and sleeves in case of empire necks.

Colors to Choose

Soft colors are the best trick to get that simple look. You can definitely pick a dark shade like the crimson or maroon, but keeping the dress pattern very simple in this case is much essential.

Colors like aqua blue or white make the best simple beach wedding dresses. Soft pink, peach, light rose color and ivory are the ultimate color choices for simple wedding gowns and dresses. When adding belts, bows and trims you can go for colors contrasting with the basic dress fabric.

Well, designing a wedding dress that looks simple, yet catchy and rich is not a tough task. All you need to do is browse through the dress styles, choose the right fabric and consult a good dress designer who will understand your requirements.

Make sure that colors, length of the dress, necklines and overall pattern is so chosen that it suits you well and you are comfortable to carry it off.

Surprise Your Sweetie with Colorful Flowers

It's expected that you give your sweetheart flowers on Valentine's Day or an anniversary. However, it's often the unexpected moments that can leave a lasting impact and earn you some serious brownie points. Taking an ordinary moment and turning it into a romantic gesture is a way to show your love and appreciation for your significant other, and ensure that you keep her around for a long time. When you're shopping for floral arrangements in the near future, keep a few of these situations in mind to make your gifts all the more special.
1. A surprise in the morning. Your girlfriend probably has enough on her mind when she's trying to get out the door in the morning. So why not use this opportunity to wow her with a gorgeous bouquet of lilies? Start first by making her coffee just the way she likes it as well as a quick and nutritious breakfast. You can then display everything on her table and place the colorful flowers inside of a vase. When she emerges from her bedroom, she'll be awestruck by your generosity and ingenuity and end up having a smile on her face all day.
2. Brighten her day during rush hour. Whether you're picking up your girlfriend from the train station or waiting for her at the bus stop, this the perfect unexpected setting to surprise your loved one with a dazzling floral bouquet. Regardless of the season, go with something bright and cheery, such as sunflowers flanked by iris or orange and yellow tulips accented by carnations. The simple fact that you took time out of your day to greet her when she came home will be touching in its own right, but you will earn some serious kudos by having some beautiful flowers in tow.
3. Send flowers to her work. If your sweetheart has been having a tough time at her job or even if everything is going swimmingly, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of receiving flowers at the workplace. Not only will this make her co-workers jealous, but these gorgeous blooms will provide an aesthetic boost to her work environment.
Unexpected gestures of love are the ones that have an enduring quality, so use the beauty of flower gifts to your advantage to add a bit of joy to your loved one's day.

Delightful Bouquets

Chances are, you're already starting to see plenty of Halloween decorations popping up around your neighborhood. A lot of people like to get a head start on the season. They may relish the chance to display inflatable front lawn ornaments and have had playful ghosts and fake gravestones laid out since late September. Of course, not all of us are willing to go for the gusto when it comes to holiday decorations, but that doesn't mean only the extreme Halloween devotees get to have fun.

If you're looking for a way to spruce up your home with some delightful Halloween décor, there are plenty of options available. And you can even retain your modesty while you do so! Here are a few ideas to help get you in the proper frame of mind.
Naturally, when you think of Halloween, you think of jack-o-lanterns. It's a bit of a project to put one together, but there are plenty of online resources available to you that will help make the process much easier. This can be a great option if you'd like to get into the holiday's spirit (no pun intended) without getting too over the top. Do yourself a favor and wait until Halloween gets closer, though, or else you'll be greeting trick-or-treaters with a rotting pumpkin.
For something a bit more modest, you could always display some Halloween-inspired floral arrangements. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to bring a bouquet to life with a little bit of ingenuity. Remember those small buckets kids used to get from fast food restaurants around this time of year? If you've got a few of them laying around in the basement, this is a great opportunity to put them to good use. Simply arrange a few orange lilies or carnations inside and you've got a delightful boo-quet that's sure to capture the attention of passersby.
While you're at it, you might as well pick up a sweet treat for yourself. You can easily find brownie pops done up to look like pumpkins, mummies and candy corn. You're probably not going to want to hand them out - do yourself a favor and keep them for yourself. You can even pick up a jack-o-lantern cookie jar to keep those delectable confections fresh!

Make your next dinner date with some fine flowers

Inviting a special lady over for dinner is always a nerve-wracking experience, especially if you're not exactly the sort who prides himself on keeping a clean house. Tidying up is always a good first step to take, but if you're looking for a way to bring that extra bit of oomph to the evening, it may be just the time to pick up a bouquet of flowers. You'd be surprised at how well they can tie a room together when they are artfully placed on some empty counter space, or on the dining table. If you're not sure what to pick up, here are a few ideas that will help inspire you.

You're going to want something fresh and vivacious, but not overly so. If you overdo it, you run the risk of giving your home a senior citizen's aesthetic. Even if - for whatever reason - this might work for you, it's probably not the vibe you want to be giving off to a lady that you're trying to impress. Stick to a single bouquet, and let it do the heavy lifting on its own. The type of flower you end up displaying is largely a matter of taste, but it's understandable if you could use a bit of guidance.
You can't go wrong with something like roses - they're inherently romantic, and if you mix up the color scheme, you won't have to worry about overdoing it. Spruce up your dining room by working fall colors into the arrangement. Deep reds and oranges work very well, especially when paired with some fresh greens. Add dashes of yellow for an extra bit of vitality and you're good to go!
If you'd rather work with something a bit more modest, consider picking up some orchids. You can either pick up a single bloom and place it tastefully in a small, thin vase, or buy several smaller flowers. Either way, they're going to look fantastic once you put them on display. Remember - the flowers don't have to be lavish and over-the-top. If you're going to be putting them on the dining table, ensure that the bouquet isn't too tall. You don't want to have to spend the entire evening bobbing and weaving around the thing just to talk to each other.

Physicists study lily blossoms

How do flowers bloom? Physicists at Harvard have applied numbers to flowers and found a mathematical formula as well as explanation for why a lily's petals open outward to reveal the bloom within, according to ScienceNews.org.
L. Mahadevan, a physicist who also discovered how the Venus flytrap snaps shut, published findings along with coauthor Haiyi Liang, in the March 21 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
The scientists studied asiatic lilies - Lilium casablanca - in the process of blooming and tried to explain why petals curve outward as opposed to inward.
According to Discovery News, some of the earlier explanations for flower blossoms included models involving the midrib - or center vertical line - of each petal.
Mahadevan and his colleagues believe that the driving forces are more along the edges of flower petals.
To prove this, they surgically removed the edges of lilies and found that the outward curls changed, becoming less pronounced.
The team also explains blossoms in terms of "instabilities" in plant cells, according to ScienceNews. Such instabilities arise when some cells become longer than others and begin to strain the edges of flowers. Any flower lover has observed this process at the sight of ruffles along the edges of petals and sepals.
“Because it’s only growing at the edge and not the middle, you get a mismatch of strain," Skotheim told the news source.
To further follow the growth of each flower, Liang and Mahadevan drew dots on the buds of unopened lilies and proceeded to videotape the flowers' growth.
Journalist Tim Wall of Discovery News quotes several writers who may have intuited the process of flower blossoms long before the new publication in PNAS.
"It is at the edge of a petal that love waits," said William Carlos Williams. Similarly, Anais Nin seemed to believe that flower blossoming didn't originate from the center of the bud. "The risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom," wrote Nin.
Mathematicians have used numbers to study and quantify the nature of other plants. The phenomenon of grass blades turning away from the sun has been explained through math.
“Infusing a scientific aesthetic into a thing of beauty only enhances our appreciation of it. This is what we try to do as scientists," Mahadevan told ScienceNews.

Easter Flowers Show

As Easter - this year held on April 24 - approaches, Orange County has a number of entertainment shows and programs lined up, including a Bonkers for Bunnies program geared towards toddlers, a Meet the Easter Bunny Eggstravaganza as well as a Hats Off to Spring Flower Show, according to the Orange County Register.
The Bonkers for Bunnies Easter-themed program will teach children about rabbits and will be held on April 22 at the Orange County Zoo. The coast of admission is $5 per child, parent included.
The Hats Off to Spring annual flower show will be held on April 28, free of charge, at the Woman's Club of Orange clubhouse. As Easter coincides with the beginning of spring, flowers are in colorful display all across the country.
Near Springfield Missouri, the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary Geranium sale is happening from now until May 5 and will feature flowers from Steinert's Greenhouse and Gardens, according to KY3 News. These include red flowers as well as pink flowers, with all money raised going to help provide needy children at the Family Enrichment Center with Easter clothes.
According to ReligiousTolerance.org, Easter is actually a combination of both Judeo-Christian and Pagan traditions. Easter falls on different dates depending on the year, but with less than a week remaining before the holiday this Sunday, those who are thinking of ordering flowers for loved ones and family members should start to look at online florists for the perfect Easter bouquet.
In Orange County, the day before Easter will be the last day of the Irvine Park Railroad's Easter Eggstravaganza. This year marks the fourth annual run of the program, which features Meet the Easter Bunny, Easter egg hunts, face painting, hayrides as well as games and carnivals. Train rides cost about $4 and parking is available on weekdays and weekends.
Flower bouquets that feature Easter themes are available online, including Easter Tulips and Spring Blooms. One can coordinate children's Easter outfits with the flowers of bouquets as well. A yellow and purple dress would go well with a batch of yellow and purple tulips.
Online florists provide a viable and often more convenient alternative to physical flower shops. One can order from the comfort of one's home at any time of the day or night. Flower delivery arrives at one's doorsteps and some online florists can drop off flowers without requiring someone to be at home, signing off on the receipt.

Spring Has Finally Sprung

Spring has sprung! Which means that Easter, and Mother’s Day is right around the corner. Dig a little deeper, and what that really means is that once again, flowers are making a comeback! Beautiful, fragrant & vibrant; they will cheer you up and thaw those winter blues away. So which will be the first to bloom? Which spring flowers can we expect to start seeing around town? Well I’m glad you asked because I’m about to tell you!
Daffodils
Pretty little, delicate yellow and white Daffodils. Fun fact, while Daffodil is the common and generally accepted name, their actual genus name is Narcissus, after the Greek God by the same name. Mythology explains that Narcissus was so in love with himself that he sat by a lake starring at his own reflection in the water; he was drawn closer and closer until finally he fell in, and drowned. It’s said that the first Daffodils sprung from that very spot.

File:Narcisy ve váze.jpg

Some varieties of Daffodils such as Tete-a-Tete, which are best when planted in partial sun during the fall, are one of the first spring flowers to bloom. It’s actually recommended you plant Daffodil bulbs about 4 weeks before the ground freezes. This gives them time to develop roots and prepare for winter and allows them to be one of the first flowers to bud in the spring.
Iris
The Iris also gets its name from Greece as the word Iris is Greek for rainbow. The Iris was aptly named as it comes in a variety of colors, you could even say they come in a rainbow of colors, including each letter of ROY G BIV. The most popular colors though would be BIV: blue, indigo and violet. Of all Irises, the early spring bloomers are the purple and blue flowered Reticulata Iris which bloom in March and early April. Other more common types of Iris including the Bulbous Irises bloom more towards mid-spring early summer.

Scilla (Hyacinth)
Scillia, which is in the Hyacinth family, is another great flower that gardeners love not only because it is an early spring bloomer, but also because of its gorgeous blue and purple hues; though it can also be found in pink and white. Like most all flowers in the Hyacinth family, Scillia are extremely fragrant and their pleasant scent can easily permeate an entire garden. Because they are among the first to bloom in early spring, the leaves will began to wither and die and the plant will become dormant by early to mid summer.

A wedding flower showdown

As anyone who has been through the process before can tell you, planning a wedding is anything but a piece of cake! You've got invitations to mail out, seating charts to come up with and a band to hire. Of course, one vital aspect of most weddings is the flowers! They're practically everywhere, from centerpieces on the table to the bride's arms as she walks down the aisle. If you're trying to figure out which flowers to get for your own nuptials, three of the most popular options are roses, orchids and lilies. Which bloom is for you? Continue on as we put them through the ultimate wedding flower showdown!

1. Orchids
Orchids come in a wide variety of colors, so you'll be sure to find one that suits your wedding's overall color scheme. These flowers are great for brides who want something a little more unassuming than roses or lilies - after all, you're probably not going to see a humongous bouquet of orchids. They thrive as individuals, and a single bloom is more than able to stand up on its own. You can even incorporate into the flower girls outfit as seen to the right. Orchids can be a bit pricier than the others, though, so if you're trying to keep yourself on a budget, you may want to look elsewhere for your wedding flowers.

2. Lilies
Lilies, on the other hand, do incredibly well in large numbers. If you're looking to go for the gusto, these blooms may be exactly what you're looking for. Not only are they practically bursting with color, but they're generally cheaper than other options available to you. Lilies are a great way to mix and match your favorite hues to come up with something that is truly unique to your ceremony and reception.
3. Roses
Ah, roses. They are the ultimate symbol of love and devotion - what better way to capture your feelings for one another than with these perennial favorites? A classic wedding should not be without its share of roses, even if it's just a single flower presented to the bride at the reception. They'll look great in a vase at your guests' tables, and rose petals also make for delightful boutonnieres!
Whatever you decide, try to stick with flowers that you think most accurately reflect on you as a person. If you aren't interested in the lavish explosions of color that lilies offer, then stick with orchids! However, if you want to keep it classic, roses might just be the way to go.

Your Home Or Office Need Zen Plants

For those who are looking to work within an Asian aesthetic or simply looking to instill a sense of calm in their homes, there's nothing that zen plants can't do to infuse an air of tranquility into your home or office. A touch of greenery has an uncanny ability to make a place seem lived in and functional, and with the wide variety of potted plants on the market, you can find the perfect bit of green to perk up the look of your space. Keep a few of these ideas in mind when you're shopping for a new addition to your updated décor.
1. A bonsai plant. Bonsai cultivation is hundreds of years old and finds its origins in the Far East. While these humble little plants require plenty of tender loving care to flourish, it could become one of your favorite hobbies! There are countless bonsai plants out there, whether you'd like a flowering azalea or gardenia, or a beautifully cool and composed jade plant. Bonsai cultivation is all about pruning and building the tree to your liking, so crafting a plant the way you'd like is a fabulous way to decorate any space.
2. Bamboo. For those who are looking to craft an Asian design aesthetic in their homes and are looking for a bit of inspiration, no room is complete without a bamboo plant. These are very different than bonsai plants as they need very little attention to grow and don't require much maintenance. They will also look spectacular when placed in a glass vase with small rocks that can conform to nearly any interior design scheme. Whether placed on a window sill or a shelf, these humble plants will be a hit.
3. Orchids. These exotic flowers are a beautiful addition to your living room or office, and they look absolutely spectacular when they're in bloom. They're a wholly unique variety that come in a number of fabulous colors and would look spectacular in a small ornate vase. While they do require a bit of effort to keep in tip-top shape, you'll be proud of your hard work when they fill your space with their enchanting scents and striking blooms.
Zen plants are welcome additions to any design scheme, and they can create the serenity that you'll love to come home to.

Autumnal Flowers

As autumn begins its approach, our thoughts turn to the colors marking the occasion - deep reds and oranges, striking yellows and maybe a dash of purple here and there. There are few pleasures greater than heading out and enjoying the beautiful foliage. But who says you have to leave your home to enjoy the colors of fall? With the right floral arrangements, you can bask in the warm glow of autumnal hues any time you like. If you're not sure what blooms would be best for this purpose, here are a few of the flowers that could work well.

An arrangement of deep blue irises, with orange tulips and lilies, creates a beautiful contrast that will immediately capture the attention of anyone who sees it. With proper care, they'll last a fair amount of time, which is great if you'd like to bring a lasting visual flair into your home. These flowers are modest but elegant, and would look great on some unused counter space or in the middle of your dinner table.

A bouquet of Peruvian lilies will have a similar effect, though you can fit many more into a single vase. Some people have been known to squeeze as many as 100 of these into a container, creating a dramatic visual centerpiece that you'll be proud to call your own. You can mix up colors with these, too, forging a veritable explosion of the autumn aesthetic.

Even roses can work in this instance. These days, we're able to make them practically any color we'd like, so there's no reason you can't put a dozen blooms of various hues into a vase. They expand outward and look stunning no matter where you decide to put them.

Autumn is a season filled with vitality. Though winter looms in the distance, it's a time when we can enjoy cooler temperatures and some of the most dazzling visual displays Mother Nature can throw at us. Getting outside and exploring the fall foliage is always a treat, but sometimes we can't find the time to do so. At these moments, having a delightful bouquet of flowers in our homes can remind us of how beautiful it can be out there.

What's your favorite season? Are there any trees in your neighborhood that seem to appear more spectacular in autumn than others?
